An open invitation to the TT community

Here in Manukau we reckon we've got a bit to celebrate having got our humble initative off the ground in a little under a year. We've all given a lot of time and energy to the "great transition" and are ready to sit back and appreciate each other and the holiday season.

One of the central themes that is at the core of our group is thoughts of COMMUNITY, and how much can flow when we can create it. In that spirit we would like to invite the whole TT community to our "Christmas Do", whether you are involved with an initive or not, come and meet us!

To all Transition Towns/Communities

"My heart was new when I came out of the wilderness". . .

I am personally calling all hearts in the NZ Transition Towns movement to come out of the wilderness and "give with great love".

James Samuel is serving NZ transition towns up and down this beautiful country daily.  He is available to you and your "love in action" transition projects 24 hours a day and has spent over a year knitting the threads throughout the country. I feel some of why TT has grown so quickly and with so much vigor is because of the dedication, knowledge, skills, networking, speaking, media coverage, workshops, website, blog, and general support James has given it.  No one asked James to take an official position as netweaver of TT NZ and because of the man many of us know he is, James has been able to serve from his heart and give with great love using his own resources including money.

First steps towards greater energy independence

Tonight 50 people attended a screening at the Waiheke community cinema, of "Samso, an (un)common island"

The energy from those who came was for taking action to address our energy needs and building some independence. The film encouraged and inspired us and the message from some residents of Samso to residents of Waiheke (as delivered by Jakob Anderson from the Danish Trade commission), was well received.

Some feedback forms were distributed and the information from them will be posted here in due course.

TT Train the Trainer

Origianlly posted on Nov 24th

The following letter (see below) went out last week to one person in each Transition initiative (for them to forward), so this may be the second time you are reading this invitation. Please think seriously about this opportunity. it is possible that you could recoup the cost of attending this event by holding trainings (a great service opportunity) and charging an appropriate fee.

Imagine if there was someone each region of New Zealand who had the benefit of this course and could assist and support their local Transition initiatives. What a difference that could make!

7 "Official" Transition Towns in New Zealand now

With the recent addition of Transition Town Brooklyn to the list of towns Towns who have formalised their adoption of the model, the total is now up to seven - with the total list of Transition initiatives being over 40. Well done Brooklyn.

Formalising an initiative is not a particularly onerous task, and it does seem a useful way of focusing on and ensuring the criteria that give an initiative a strong base to move forward from, are in place.
