Introduction to Mt Victoria
Welcome to Mt Victoria Transition Towns page.
We are as yet a small group and have been watching various DVDs to be come more familiar with the issues around Peak Oil, Climate Change and Permaculture. See the complete list here. And more are on order.
A particular focus is on edible gardens including visits to each other's garden to share ideas and see what works, and are planning to do so again in 2010.
We have advertised to take people's Bokashi Bins and empty them with our own compost. This is particularly useful for people in apartments with limited access to garden spaces. Phone Pat Hubbard, 3842646, for more information about this scheme.
The group has discussed the possibility of acting as facilitator to link up people in the area who have gardens they struggle to keep up with, with people who would like to garden but have no ground to work on. This scheme is working in a small way in some other areas, with mutual benefit for both parties. We understand that a range of things can be shared such as not just the use of land, but produce from the gardening, expertise and even tools. If anyone is interested either in sharing a part of their garden, or in being the gardener, please get in touch with Pat Hubbard 384 2646
Currently we meet at New Crossways at 7:30pm on the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday of the month.
NEXT MEETING
The Mt Victoria Transition Towns July meeting will begin with a short NZ DVD on practical efforts to work with and heal the environment(excerpts from Earth Whisperers), after which there will be time for discussion and for planning our future program-
The meeting will be at New Crossways, Roxburgh St, Tuesday 20July, commencing 7:30 pm. For further information contact Frank Cook on 027 6496508.
Following our efforts to act as facilitator to link up people in the area who have gardens they struggle to keep going with people who would like to garden we are now looking for more people willing and able to garden - and of course will also be pleased from others who want to share their garden. Anyone interested please get in touch with Pat Hubbard 384 2646.
