Summary of Transition Nelson June 09 Survey

The results of the survey clearly show the Transition Town model significantly raises people's awareness and motivates them action. See below for summary.   

As a result of their involvement with Transition Nelson;

79% said their knowledge on climate change had improved

76% said their knowledge on peak oil had improved

83% said their knowledge on things they can personally do to reduce their carbon footprint or dependence on fossil fuels has improved

73% have taken action to reduce their energy use, 84% have taken action to reduce their Transport carbon footprint, 90% have taken action to reduce their food carbon footprint and 91% have taken action to reduce their waste

99% have shared information from Transition Nelson with others, 40% with 11 or more people, 88% believe this has helped reduce other peoples emissions

Average members age is 46 - 55 years

40% volunteer time each month on Transition Nelson initiatives

89% believed membership should be voluntary, 11% to mandatory

Most popular membership fee was $10 for a Student, $20 for an individual & $30 for a family.

In June a link to a web based survey was emailed out to 482 members.  76 people completed the survey, which is a response rate of 15.7%. 

12 Month Summary

Over the last 12 months Transition Nelson had 33 radio interviews, been in the local newspaper 24 times, made or hosted 65 public meetings, presentations or displays, hosted over 100 Group meetings and grown its database from 0 to 484 members.
