Climate change, tipping points and food production: the link

Dr Aryan Tavakkoli MBBS FRACP

More and more New Zealanders are becoming aware of the reality of climate change and are taking steps to lead lives that are more environmentally friendly - we are recycling more, buying more green products, reducing our consumption of fuel – yet there is one change that we can all make in our lifestyles that would have a far greater impact on preventing the destruction of our beautiful planet….

Few of us realize the huge impact that our dietary choices have on not only our health, but our environment. For example –

Do you know what is one of the major contributors of greenhouse gas emissions and the root of most of our planet’s serious environmental problems?

What is the cause of many species extinctions every year?

Why is the World Health Organization concerned about future water depletion?

There is one thing that links all of these….

In an engaging and thought-provoking presentation, Dr Aryan Tavakkoli discusses the many-fold effects of our dietary choices - from personal health, to ecological and environmental effects, through to global issues including climate change and even world hunger.

Data and research will be presented from the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and leading scientific journals, demonstrating the profound impact our dietary choices have on our lives and on the life (and destruction) of our planet.

A solution is offered… other solutions from meeting participants will be encouraged!
