Transition Town Motueka Update 2009 October 20.

Hello TTers. I hope those of you with flooded gardens can now fetch your parsley without putting on your gumboots.   1. Our Community Currency: TALENTS will have its launch this Friday night, 23rd October, 7.30pm, Memorial Hall supper room. It will be a movie and information night.     You'll see movies on alternative currency systems, and hear about how TALENTS works, and how you could become part of this local trading system. This is an important part of     strengthening the local economy and building community, so do try to come to this event.   2. Basic Climate Science: Free two hour seminar, Saturday 24st October 2pm-4pm Memorial Hall supper room, Motueka.  Make an educated decision on this vital topic. Should you be concerned? If so, what can you do? Speakers: Katerina Seligman, Joanna Santa Barbara,   3. And a very interesting invitation from new TT member, Craig Ambrose. Craig has substantial IT experience and is eager to apply it to TTM.

Hi Everyone,

I'm organising a few meetings to help produce the promotional and marketing tools needed by Transition Town Motueka in its various initiatives. That could mean a website,

logo, selecting some commonly used colours, or some examples of effective language. While Transition Towns isn't a "brand" in the commercial sense, we do what people to

be able to get an accurate first impression of what we are about, and I think that the way we present out promotional material can really help with this.

·        Even if you're not involved in any current Transition Town Motueka projects, you might be interested to come along and lend a hand to design our promotional materials.

Or, if you happen to know of (or be) a graphic designer or graphic artist who might be sympathetic to our cause, I'd also be interested to hear from you. In either case,

please drop me a line at the details below, and I'll arrange a mutually agreeable meeting time for those people wanting to come along.

thanks,

4. Several of us wrote letters saying the Emissions Trading Scheme would not do the job of cutting NZ's carbon emissions adequately, and would cost lots of taxpayer money going in the

wrong direction. While I was composing this letter, I had a call inviting me to present at the Select C'tee on Finance on Thursday. I'll do this by teleconference. While this is not strictly a

TT activity, climate change mitigation is a strong TT theme, so I thought I'd let you know.

5. Next TTM Meeting: Nov. 4th, 6.30pm., 'Eden Villa', 334 High St.. We'll have some interesting things to discuss - an offer for seminars on care of animals on small farms, a decision on

whether to have a stall at Motueka A&P.

Warm wishes,

Joanna
