Introduction

Port Chalmers is a vibrant community located about 10 km from the centre of Dunedin, population around 3000.  As well as being the main port for Dunedin city, it has a thriving arts scene and is home to a host of community-driven projects.  These include: a successful community gardens; the "Bags Not" campaign to rid the West Harbour of plastic bags; community fundraising quiz nights; ping pong political evenings and many more.  In 2009 we decided that it'd be great to put these things together under the Transition Town banner to raise awareness about them, give them a bigger impact, get more people involved and allow other groups to see what is going on here.  To contact us or get involved please email porttransitiontown@gmail.com
