Te Tiriti and Environmental Action Workshop

Te Tiriti and Environmental Action Workshop: 10am Saturday 20th - 4pm Sunday 21st March 2010

This workshop is a space for environmentalists living in the Auckland Northland region to come together, learn about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and consider how to put these learnings into practice. We will begin by covering some basics about Te Tiriti and colonisation, and then explore the implications for working on environmental issues in the context of a colonised land.

The second day will be spent primarily working on how to implement these learnings in the environmental action(s) you are involved in. This will involve group work. If you are keen to attend the workshop, please make sure that at least two other people you are working with are also able to attend.

Kotare is primarily a Tauiwi (non Maori) organisation. We are committed to doing our best to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This workshop is aimed towards Tauiwi working on environmental issues who would like to upskill in relation to Te Tiriti.

Where:   The workshop will be held at our residential centre in Hoteo North, near Wellsford. Food and accommodation is provided. Some participants will need to camp, so if you are able to bring a tent that would be great.  If you need assistance with travel cost, please contact us and we will try to help.

Cost: $0-$150 sliding scale. Please self-assess your payment and consider your means when deciding what to pay. Donations towards the Kotare’s running costs are very welcome. If you are on a low income, please feel welcome to attend at a subsidised rate.

Registration: There are still spaces available. If you are keen to attend, please register asap.  To register, or for more information, please contact Tanya Newman: education@kotare.org.nz 021 027 69112.
