Permaculture in NZ National Hui
16 Apr 2010 10:00
18 Apr 2010 17:00
Come along to the 2010 Annual Permaculture Hui in beautiful Whaingaroa Raglan
Meet up with other permaculturalists, ecological designers and change agents from around Aotearoa New Zealand and share the harvests, innovations and success stories of your bioregion and learn about what others are up to. Bring along surplus food from the garden, resources and project ideas to share with the permaculture whanau. This is a great opportunity to pool our resources and share our taonga!
Our hosts for this year's annual event, the community of Whaingaroa, will share their successes and showcase many of their gems with Annual Hui participants all weekend long.
As always, there will be a range of activities and processes throughout the weekend for different ages, interests and areas of permaculture expertise. This year's event will include a Kid's area; an Open Forum for participants to create workshops, discussions and other networking sessions of their choosing; pre-planned 'advanced' permaculture training workshops; site visits to local properties and community initiatives; and an Open Mic night.
This year we have the privilege of being hosted at Poihakena marae for the Hui. *The pohiri will begin at 10 am on Friday, April 16th *.Please be there on time. Marae kawa typically includes guests (us)offering koha at the time of arrival and entry onto the marae (pohiri).Money contributions as well as seed or plant stock, especially riwai /Maori potatoes would be greatly appreciated. If you bring plant stock with you please bring with it its whakapapa so that knowledge can be honoured and retained locally. Koha for the marae is separate from registration fees for the 2010 Annual Permaculture Hui. Everyone who hasnot visited Poihakena marae in the past are waewae tapu. This means they are an unknown quantity to the marae and are accorded appropriate respect through the ritual of the pohiri. The pohiri also serves to pull a large group of people who may or may not know each other and are coming together from different regions into one dynamic for one specific purpose; the pohiri serves as a ritual to confirm the purpose for which we are coming together. It is not to be missed lightly - *attendance is expected*.
We are hoping for great weather so bring your togs, towel and favourite summer wear. Accommodation options include marae style, tent camping included in the registration fee. Also, for those preferring greater comfort or privacy Raglan has several other accommodation options available (eg. Solscape Eco Retreat). Booking accommodation off-site is your responsibility. We advise you to book early as there is also a Waka Ama competition on the same weekend.
Breaking from tradition, this *year PiNZ is requesting that EVERYONE attending the Annual Hui register in advance*. Spaces are limited this year so register early. *Registrations will close on Friday April 9th* so don't miss out!!! We want to ensure that we can accommodate everyone at the venue as well as ensure a quality and enjoyable weekend for all. Your cooperation is appreciated.
We look forward to seeing you there!!!
