Hemp Building - Appropriate Technology
UK based building products and systems developer, Lime Technology are the market leaders in the development of lime and hemp based, low carbon building products. Touted to sequester 110 kg's of CO2 per cubic meter this is definitaly an appropriate technology for the current ecological and economic climate. The health benefits to people and planet are far too valuable to ignore.
Due to its amazing adaptability hemp can be grown without herbicides or pesticides close to the building markets thus reducing its footprint further.
Now that http://www.facebook.com/WaikatoHempProject are growing Industrial Hemp in the Waikato we may see some of this technology bless our shores in the near future.

I look forward to the day
I can see a big celebration one day. A moment to look back on the dark age when we struggled to 'be allowed' to grow Hemp and use it for all the amazing things it's good for. A big party to acknowledge that distant memory, and rejoice in how far we've come and in such a short time.
Hemp Technologies in New Plymouth
We already have a builder in New Plymouth building homes out of hempcrete.

At present he imports hemp from Australia for his hempcrete homes. However he has hemp seed and is happy to assist farmers interested in growing it to become licensed.
Hemp Industry New Zealand message
The New Zealand Hemp Industry has some keen followers. Many people are talking about it yet in New Zealand over the 2011 and 2012 growing season there were only 4 license holders/growing. And only two grew more that 10 hectares.
There were three in the South Island and one in the North Island. The Hemp Farm New Zealand limited is who has been financing the waikato hemp project. Our aim to dedicate our interests and energy in to hemp farming so as to enable industry.
We do so for the environment, first our soils then the waterways, and the air that we breath and that forms forms our atmosphere, these must be cleansed and stabilized and remediated. Hemp has the ability to help with all aspects of our vision. Once soil water ways and air are stabilized we then will begin to see health and well being to all with in the environment prosper. The speed of our mission will depend on how many others get on board and claim ownership to the environmental issues facing us today. We do not argue that global warming is man made or a natural event, our mission is simply the cleaning of the environment, the foundation and building block to health and well being. Take care of the pennies (in this case soil water air) and the dollars, (the environment) will take care of it selves, same is true of any family, community, business or planet.
From the moment we plant hemp we are aiding in the restoration and the economy. Hemp is mans best friend, we have travelled the globe with hemp seeds in our possession for at least the past 12,000 years. We truly would not be where we are today without the help of hemp. In fact it has only been in the past 90 years that black oil, petrochemical has been introduced as an alternative to hemp. In the minds of many it was the exact wrong turn. Black oil must be left in the ground as it is truly poison to the environment and all with in it. I heard a question on a talk back last year which asked what would humanity be like now if we had not discovered black oil. I rang with enthusiasm r=to say we would be living in the garden of eden.
Hemp provides food, shelter, clothing and energy in the form of the best that can be achieved from any form of resource on earth hands down , so spread the word.
The Hemp Farm New Zealand is born because we knew the first step was to put seed in the ground. We have harvested and now we are ready to plant again. We have machinery coming never to have been seen in New Zealand. The dedicated hemp decorticator is to hemp what an oil rig is to petrochemical. it separates the fiber from the hurd which then enables industry to use the fiber for many purposes from insulation, textiles etc. Hurd for the building industry, animal bedding and energy, plastics industries and more. We are working with universities empowering students to work with hemp and develop the industry through science. Hemp has been used to remediate soils for years including the nuclear disaster site at Chernobyl.
To date we lease land to grow which will always be the case however we require a dedicated hemp farm which is our next step so that we can set up a total growing and processing unit. We are considering share farming. The lucky farm will be grown bio-dynamically and on a rotation basis. If any one has a farm they want to share this way please contact us.
