Welcome to Transition Town Opotiki Coast
Our purpose is to help our community transition away from dependence on fossil fuels towards a more resilient life-style that is gentler on the Earth.
We are in the process of applying to become a Charitable Trust, with the current Trustees Kazel, Lynne and Matt.
Negotiations are also underway for us to work in cooperative partnership with the Ngaitai Iwi Authority Trust, in particular to utilise their Blue Shed to house many of initiatives listed below, plus an Environment Centre. Strategic Planning has helped us to develop this vision for the use of the building.
Recently Energy Options advertised for nominations for a charitable group to get an energy efficient makeover, including insulation and a wood pellet fire. Here is our TTOC nomination for the Blue Shed.
Current Initiatives:
- Opotiki Green Drinks. Come join us after dinner for wine and cheese, or coffee and a slice!
- Open air Market
- Organic Co-operative
- Garden Make-overs. We are underway in our initiative to help neighbourhoods get started with back-yard vege-gardens...
- Tool Library. Now at Central Service Centre in King St. Read more...
- Awareness-raising Column. Kazel's weekly Transition Town column published in the Opotiki News each Thursday is also available here as a blog. Leave a comment!
