Otaki

As someone who is keen that a Transition Towns group start in Otaki, I did a submission to the local community board in February but circumstances went against me (or was it the wonderful weather?) and I didn't do anything about it until mid April 2008. We have attended some Kapiti TT meetings and helped with their stall at the Council's Sustainable Home and Garden Show. Also helping write a manual for Kapiti Transition Towns. I also attended a meeting at Wellington Transition Towns where community currency expert Miguel Hirota spoke and the LETS conference in Porirua with South African LETS expert Don Northcroft in attendance as well. I myself am the author of a book on complementary currencies Healthy Money Healthy Planet pbl Craig Potton 2005.

Then as a result of the February submission a trainee journalist got in touch and interviewed me on April 18 for the local paper, so I really DID have to do something to start a group!

Some recent activity

I have had two screenings of The 11th Hour on 15th and 16th April at our place and have now set up a room with a projector and screen for a larger audience and more showings.

Next step

More awareness raising by showing more DVDs is planned, also a ning.com website has been set up for communication within Otaki. The End of Suburbia will be shown on May 7.
