Whangarei City Transition Hub http://whangareitt.ning.com/
and the Tutukaka Coast Transition Coastal Initiative
In Whangarei, we have a City steering group and a separate, although overlapping, steering group for the Tutukaka coast set up.
There is a huge amount of interest and enthusiasm in the project and it is already proving to be a magnet to draw together people who have the vision and the energy to work co-operatively with others to create more localized, more resilient and more sustainable systems that have the potential to be much richer, more meaningful, more just and more connected that the current systems. There's a great feeling of hope emerging. The transition town model is a brilliant plan, based on a depth of experience, vision and heart and many people are feeling very inspired by it and excited about being a part of such positive change.
To join in with discussions with others interested in the Transition Town projects in Whangarei, come to our group web space at http://whangareitt.ning.com/ Here you will also find updates from the various sub groups in Whangarei and Tutukaka.

The first public meeting on the Tutukaka Coast on the 1st August had a really good turn out and great enthusiasm and participation from all involved. It offered a presentation of the basic concepts and aims of our Transition Initiative and background to the Transition Movement worldwide. This meeting gave the opportunity for the collective voice of all those interested to come together, which was a big success overall.

There is an awareness raising group working on the future line up of events, dvd showings and meetings. There is also the beginnings of a reskilling and elders group. The re'skilling group have organized a Food preparation course at the Ngunguru Hall, starting 26th October, contact us for more details.
If you are interested in learning more about what we're doing or being part of the organization or lending us your ideas, please contact us. This is a community project that affects our whole community and it's success depends to a large extent on our networking with existing groups on the coast, as well as the involvement of the individual residents on the coast who are aligned with this vision.
